The issues of development of viticulture and winemaking were discussed in Gabala.

Today, an increase in wine exports, like other sectors of the non-oil sector, is a priority. Among the products, the promotion of which is envisaged in the external market against the promotion of export, there are also wines. At the moment, the quality of the wine products produced in our country meets international standards. These ideas were sounded at the republican scientific and practical seminar on the subject "Improvement of the production technology of wine and brandy of high quality, obtained from various types of technical varieties of grapes in Azerbaijan" at the "Savalan" grapes processing and wine production enterprise of "ASPI Agro" LLC in Gabala region with the organizational support of the Research Institute of Viticulture and Wine-making of the Ministry of Agriculture. According to the director of the Research Institute of Viticulture and Wine-making, an active member of the International Academy of Viticulture and Wine, the academician of the European Academy of Natural Sciences, Doctor of Technical Sciences Tariel Panahov, who took part in the event, attended by farmers and landowners engaged in viticulture, processing of grapes, as well as scientists, our country has adopted consistent programs in connection with the development of viticulture and winemaking. The last one is the State Program for the Development of Winemaking in the Republic of Azerbaijan, covering 2018-2025. It was noted that in recent years new technologies for the production of table, dessert varieties of wines, such types as nectar and cahors, fruit and berry liqueurs, molasses and natural grape juice, materials for making champagne wine, technologies for producing cognac and vodka have been developed. As reported, presentation of wines and spirits produced in Azerbaijan is being held at international tasting competitions and exhibitions in various countries today to promote the "Made in Azerbaijan" brand. It was brought to the attention that about 80 percent of the world's grapes are usually processed, and 20 percent are used as table grapes and other purposes. As reported, in our country this work has already started, and some progress has been made. Speaking at the event, the chairperson of "ASPI Agro" LLC Azhdar Shafizade told about the production of winemaking products at the "Savalan" grape processing and wine production enterprise, based on the use of modern technologies. It was emphasized that at the enterprise, which has been operating since 2007, the production of wine has been started since 2010. At the enterprise with production capacity of 1000 tons, 16 types of wines are currently produced. Wine products produced at the enterprise are exported to Russia, Belarus, Turkey, a number of European countries, as well as to the People's Republic of China. At the moment the enterprise has 350 hectares of vineyards in the Gabala and Ismayilli regions. Further at the seminar, continued in the form of an open dialogue, discussions were held on issues interesting for farmers and entrepreneurs engaged in viticulture. The participants of the event got acquainted with the American rootstock and new hybrid varieties of grapes, resistant to the phylloxera in accordance with the conditions of Azerbaijan, selected as a result of scientific research conducted by the staff of the Research Institute of Viticulture and Wine-making, examined the production sites of the enterprise, got acquainted with the technological equipment, processing of grapes and production of wine.
