The region men's chess tournament dedicated to "March 5th - Day of Physical Culture and Sport" took place.

March 5th - Day of Physical Culture and Sports in our country. This date is not accidentally celebrated as the Day of Physical Culture and Sports in Azerbaijan. On March 5, 1995, the great leader Heydar Aliyev met with the winners and prize-winners of the World and European Championships at the Baku Sports Palace, established the Sports Foundation, and laid the foundation for a new strategy in the field of physical education and sports. Strengthening the material and technical base of sports and concern for the professionalism of athletes in the near future showed Azerbaijan in the world as a sports country, giving a positive result. Traditionally, Azerbaijan annually celebrates "March 5th - the Day of Physical Education and Sport". The Department of Youth and Sports of the Gabala region held the first region chess championship among men on March 5th in accordance with the relevant action plan. At the opening ceremony of the tournament, the head of the District Youth and Sports Department, Fakhri Soltanov, welcomed the participants of the tournament, congratulated them and wished them success. The participants were informed about the history of this date and that this date is celebrated on the basis of the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev dated on March 4th, 2005 on the establishment of the Day of Physical Culture and Sports. The purpose of the championship is to improve the sports skills of the participants, as well as to achieve the popularity of sports. About 20 chess players from villages, towns and various sports teams of the region demonstrated a tough circular game in the tournament. At the end of the championship, held in tough conditions, Karimli Rashad Farari took 1st place, 2nd place went to Safarov Eldar Saleh, 3rd place went to Guluyev Fariz Shahid. In nominations for active participation, Almammadov Araz Baghir was awarded, as the youngest participant - Abushov Nijat Imran, and as the oldest participant - Alammadov Alovsat Charkaz. The winners were awarded with diplomas, cups and memorable gifts from the Youth and Sports Department.
