On June 24, with the joint organization of The State Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the Work with Religious Organizations and the Gabala Region Executive Power, a seminar-meeting was held on the subject "Religious extremism as a source of danger to social and moral values." The seminar-meeting was attended by the leadership of the SCWRO and the Gabala Region Executive Power, authorized officers of the Department for International Relations, Multiculturalism and Religious Issues of the Presidential Administration, the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service, the executive and law enforcement agencies of the Gabala, Ismailli, Aghsu and Oguz regions, the Caucasian Muslims Office, as well as members of the public. First, the participants laid flowers at the monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev. Then, the deputy head of the SCWRO Sayavush Heydarov, speaking at a seminar-meeting at the Cultural Center about the socio-political stability, peace and prosperity existing in Azerbaijan, building healthy state-religious relations, noted that our country has a tradition of state-religious relations, tolerance, multiculturalism and coexistence, which can be an example for the whole world. Protecting this exemplary model of Azerbaijan and passing it on to new generations is the responsibility of each of us. Sayavush Heydarov said that many countries in the world are currently suffering from serious religious extremism and terrorism. Due to terrorist acts, social stability is disturbed in many regions of the world, civil confrontation is taking place, and millions of people live as refugees and homeless. The exploitation of a religion that brings peace and happiness to society, by terrorist and extremist groups that threaten the peace and security of people, creates a great threat to the security of the state. From this point of view, it is important to point out the important role that religion plays in human morality and public consciousness, and to direct the influence on the right path. An official of the committee noted that today the approach to religion is a long and exclusive state right, not only in terms of human rights and national and spiritual values, but also security. Although religion is separated from the state, the state is directly responsible for the religious situation in the country and the safety of its citizens. According to him, the forces that do not want the development of our country are trying to influence Azerbaijan not only in the political, but also in the religious plane, attempts are being made to export foreign religious ideologies. "We want the development of Islamic values in Azerbaijan and the presence of Islam in our lives as a moral factor. Our people will not allow to use Islam for political purposes, will not allow a tendency towards prejudice and religious radicalism. All of us should try to protect the citizens of the country, in particular the youth from the foreign influence," said the deputy chairperson of the committee. The seminar-meeting concluded its work with discussions on the topic.
