The liberation of Aghdam district is the result of a trilateral statement signed on November 10.

Under the leadership of Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces presented a bold front that could be a lesson in the world's military history for the liberation of our lands during the 44-day Patriotic War. Hereinafter Armenia will hand over the occupied Kalbajar, Aghdam and Lachin districts according to the trilateral Statement signed without any battle operation, and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan will be fully restored herein. To liberate a land from the enemy without shedding blood and making martyr is less common experience in the world history. This is a great success obtained as a result of pragmatic, well-judged and farsighted policy of President Ilham Aliyev. The liberation of Aghdam district on November 20, 2020 is a historic event. The liberation of Aghdam district is the execution of relevant provision of a trilateral statement signed on November 10. However, Resolution no. 853 which was adopted by the UN Security Council in 1993 and 27 years left unfulfilled, as well as envisaging the withdrawal of invading forces from occupied Aghdam district was executed by the terms of Azerbaijan as a result of confident and principal position of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. As a result of the occupation, architectural monuments in the territory of Aghdam region were completely erased, burned, damaged and destroyed. Archaeological research revealed that the first ancient people lived in Uchoghlantepe six or eight thousands years ago, during the Chalcolithic period (covers 4-6th millennium B.C.), acquainted with cropping and cattle-breeding culture. The scientist revealed pottery, smeltry, jeweller’s art, material and spiritual monuments about the Chalcolithic (first half of 2nd millennium B.C.) during archaeological explorations carried out in Leylatepe and Uzerliktepe places have been ancient living areas of the region. Before the occupation, there were 1898 socio-economic construction facilities, 17 industrial, 31 construction, 753 trade, 397 public catering, 220 household enterprises, 480 social buildings, 24446 residential buildings, as well as 54 preschool, 116 general educational institutions, several university branches, 13 houses of culture, museums, 109 cultural clubs in Ahgdam. Along with the only “Bread Museum” in the world in Aghdam, tar player Gurban Pirimov's Memorial Museum, Agdam Photo Gallery and Mosque and its minarets, which are considered to be the ancient architectural monuments located in the center of the city were barbarically destroyed by Armenian vandals. Totally more than 130 historical monument and examples of material culture were removed from the Earth. Emphasizing that now a new era begins for Aghdam, Ilham Aliyev said: “The liberation of Aghdam was possible as a result of the glorious military victory. If Azerbaijan had not defeated Armenia on the battlefield, Armenia would not have left our lands of its own free will. There are many reasons for this. First of all, because of the fortifications they had built in those regions, in the occupied territories. A lot of money was invested there. Those fortifications were intended to prevent the Azerbaijani Army from passing through them. But they were wrong again. They could not calculate our strength correctly. They did not know what the Azerbaijani Army and Azerbaijani citizens were capable of doing. They did not know that it was our strength, equipment and morale that led us to that Victory. They did not know that the people of Azerbaijan have been living with the desire to return to their ancestral lands for all these years. All these and other factors paved the way for our Victory”. Aghdam will once again become one of the richest regions of Azerbaijan, where the culture and other activity fields are highly developed. As noted in the address to nation by the Head of State, a master plan will be prepared for the restoration of Aghdam city, specialists will be involved, infrastructure projects will be implemented in a planned manner, office buildings, social facilities, roads and other necessary work will be carried out. A new era begins for Aghdam now as stated by the Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. Today everybody looks forward to go to Shusha, Fuzuli, Zangilan, Gubadli, Aghdam. A new beautiful life will begin in our liberated native lands, including Aghdam in the immediate future.
