Main result of last 30 years has been the liberation of our lands from occupation.

10 January 2021 | 02:00

The video conference chaired by President Ilham Aliyev on the results of 2020 provided an overview of the past year, as well as extensive information on the priorities for the next stage; the trajectory of development in various areas of our country was determined. First and foremost, it should be noted that despite the fact that 2020 is remembered as a very difficult year for the world today against the background of global economic and political difficulties caused by the COVID-19 infection, Azerbaijan managed to overcome this situation with less losses than other countries. Thus, Azerbaijan's economy has shrunk by just over 4 percent, which is a very good figure compared to other countries. In previous years, the President identified the development of the non-oil sector as one of the priorities of the country's economy and our non-oil industry has grown by more than 11 percent this year. Of course, it was possible due to diversification and the appropriate implementation of industrial policy. The purpose is to increase agriculture by more than 2 percent, which will be possible through autumn sowing on the liberated lands. Whether coronavirus funding, war costs, and other costs, such as benefits and social packages, Azerbaijan managed to maintain its foreign exchange reserves. Average salary and average pension have been increased by around 13-14%. Another important, historic achievement was in the energy sector. So, the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the last segment of the Southern Gas Corridor, has already been completed. Azerbaijan has become a major gas exporter on the world market hereby. For the first time in history, Azerbaijan has managed to export its natural gas to the European market directly through pipelines. European consumers get Azerbaijani gas. Of course, this point will bring both economically and politically success to our country. This positive point should raise our partnership to a higher level and benefit our nations. Business climate, investment climate, the result of all implemented reforms is reflected in the 28th place among 190 countries in the World Bank's "Doing Business" program. Furthermore, the level of electricity supply to the population – Azerbaijan ranks second in the world. In terms of the government's commitment to change, i.e. for the reform ratio, Azerbaijan ranks fifth in the world. The government’s political stability agenda – Azerbaijan ranks 11th in the world. These successes, advanced figures prove once again that the strategic development map defined by President Ilham Aliyev is the right way. These were not easily achieved. Although our lands were under occupation, we had refugees, Azerbaijan managed to succeed these successes. After that, major development processes will begin; the work will become more active and purposeful, which in turn will increase the dynamics of our country's development. Of course, the restoration work will start after an international assessment. In the next stages, surveys will be conducted among the IDPs to find out their intentions to return to their ancestral lands in order to find out the real situation. Restoration works will be implemented according to their responses. Houses planned for IDPs will be given to the families of martyrs. The construction of a modern international airport was also identified as one of the main priorities, which is a very important step for the development of the region's tourism sector, and the Karabakh region generally. Over the past year, a more serious fight against corruption and bribery has also begun, which is directly related to the ongoing personnel reforms. The positive results of the personnel change are already visible in the Cabinet of Ministers, the Presidential Administration, local executive power bodies and this factor is highly valued by society. In addition, the cost control mechanism in government agencies will be strengthened and this issue is also important in terms of eliminating waste. During the speech of the Head of State, one issue is very important which is due to the preservation of the destroyed places in each city during the reconstruction of the liberated cities. The memorial complexes here, along with the monuments reflecting our victory, are the creation of museums of occupation so that the general picture of Armenia's policy of aggression will be displayed and visitors from abroad will see it and our future generations will not forget it. One of the economic areas to be developed in the liberated lands will be also mining so that a.ccording to the experience of our country, work will be done in this regard.
