Commemoration gathering was held.

On December 23 a commemoration gathering dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of a caring teacher, a modest person and a humanist Rovshan Shafizadeh. Rovshan Gulmammad Shafizadeh was born on December 23, 1917 in Baku city and grew up here. In 1937 he finished the two-year Teaching Institute in Baku, and was appointed to the secondary school named after Nizami of Gabala city (former Gutgashen) as a Mathematics Teacher by the assignment of the former People's Commissariat for Education. Rovshan Shafizadeh was called up to the army in 1941 to serve in the Great Patriotic War, and in 1942 was discharged from the army for being severely injured. He was appointed the Director of the Gazi-Mammad city Secondary School in the same year. After having been teaching there for a while, he returned to the Gutgashen region in 1944 and from time to time worked as a director or a teacher in the city secondary school named after Nizami (present city secondary school No.1) till the end of his life. In his short lifetime, Rovshan Shafizadeh has made a great effort to prepare the youths and adolescents of Gabala for the society and life, as well as has trained prominent intellectuals operating in different fields who are well-known throughout the country. His services have been appreciated by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic and its regional education department, and he was awarded various diplomas and honorary certificates. The prominent pedagogue died in 1970 at the age of 53, and was buried in the city of Gabala. His followers and those who know him well always commemorate Rovshan Shafizadeh with deep respect. The anniversary event was organized in the Full Secondary School No.1 of the city where Rovshan Shafizadeh had worked. The ceremony was attended by the representatives of the Region Executive Power, the Education Department, as well as the representatives of authorities and enterprises, intellectuals, a group of city elders, the family members of the pedagogue and the media members. The audience, firstly, got acquainted with the photographic exhibition setting out the pedagogical background of Rovshan Shafizadeh, in the foyer of the school. The event was opened by the retired honoured teacher Farman Azizli. In the ceremony, all of the dear departed teachers, whose names are in the list of unforgettable educators in the history of the region education, were remembered in a minute's silence. Farman Azizli provided detailed information on the unforgettable person Rovshan Shafizadeh’s life and pedagogical activities, and spoke of his own memories of this noble person. The Deputy Head of the Region Executive Power Ataya Osmanova, the Deputy Director for Educational Affairs of the city full secondary school No.1 Durdana Zeynalova, the Director of the full secondary school No.4 Gashangi Musayeva, the employee of the Education Department Arifa Bayramova, and the close relatives of Rovshan Shafizadeh, Samad Samadov, Mehpara Shafizadeh, the students economist Zahid Karimov, Shahsoltan Shakarkhanov, the colonel-lieutenant in reserve Ali Mammadov, PhD in philology Fazil Ahmadov and other speakers spoke about the teaching activities, the contributions to the education in Gabala, the high level social organizational skills, and the exemplary memories for the young generation of this patriotic person. The literary composition prepared by the students made the event even more interesting. A video dedicated to Rovshan Shafizadeh’s activity and the letters of his friends and former students who were unable to come to the event were demonstrated in the ceremony. The writers from Gabala, Samad Samadov, Jalil Komradli, Fakhraddin Babayev, Hasanagha Kadarli read their poems dedicated to the caring teacher. In the end, Ajdar Shafizadeh, son of the anniversary celebrant expressed his deep gratitude to the attendees of the event on behalf of his family. The event was ended with the concert programme lead by Vagif Yaguboghlu.
