The Tragedy of 20 January is one of the most serious crimes committed against humanity.

On January 20, an event was held in Gabala region Police Department in respect of “the Day of Nationwide Sorrow”. First of all, the dear memories of our honorable sons and daughters, who sacrificed themselves for the sake of independence of the motherland, were commemorated in a minute of silence. Afterwards, opening the event with introduction speech, the Chief of the Department, Police Colonel Nadir Mammadov noted that 28 years have passed since the tragedy was brought to the life of our people on the 20th of January in 1990. However, no matter how many time pass, this historical date which is bloody, but honorable at the same time for our nation, in our struggle for independence will never be forgotten. It was brought to the attention that despite the fact that imperial executioners shed the blood of our many brave sons and daughters on that day, they could not throw our people off the way of honorable independence and freedom. But rather, the determination of our people in independence strengthened further and in a short time the fearless offspring of the motherland achieved their goals. Azerbaijan turned into a free, independent, sovereign state. The speakers at the event provided extended information about the tragedy of 20 January and stressed that the foresaid night is not only a tragedy, but also the day of awakening of the desire of independence in our national ideology in the history of Azerbaijan. It was noted that the tragedy of 20 January, which has been eternally engraved in the memory of our nation, will never be forgotten, the loving memory of our martyrs, who sacrificed themselves for the independence of the motherland, will live forever in the hearts of those who love Azerbaijan.
