Tobacco cultivation areas have been expanded in the region.
According to the tasks and recommendations of President IlhamAliyev, development of tobacco cultivation in Gabala region within the framework of the events carried out for therevival of the export-oriented and traditional fields in our countryis aimed. It has already been 3 years since the 10-year break that tobacco has been being cultivated in Gabala. The farmers, who cultivated tobacco in 70 hectare area in the region last year, have been inspired by state support and have expanded their cultivation areas this year. The villagers, who started tobacco cultivation last month, have transferred tobacco seedlings to 60 hectare area till this day. Tobacco has been cultivated in Mamayli, Shamili, KichikAmili and Ziring villages of the region. The farmers have prepared to plant tobacco in 75 hectare area.The product producers of the region prefer the“İmmunium-558” and “Berley” tobacco varieties adapted to local conditions during cultivation.If these sorts of tobacco plants were provided proper agro-technical maintenance it is possible to obtain 35-40 tons of products as green mass, and 3,5-4 tons of dry products per hectare. The farmers have entered into agreements on the purchase of products with “Azeri” tobacco enterprise operating in Shaki prior to the cultivation procedure. It should be noted that generally more than 160 local residents are involved in the process of tobacco planting, cultivating and harvesting by 4 farmers. And it has a positive impact on employment of rural residents and improvement of their living conditions. Last year, 115 tons products were collected from 70 hectare tobacco areas in Gabala region.
