"The 7th International Conference of the Economic Cooperation Organization on Disaster Risk Management" started In Gabala.

On the initiative of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and organized by the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan, the work of "The 7th International Conference of the Economic Cooperation Organization on Disaster Risk Management" was started on 4th June in Gabala.
The two-day conference was attended by the high-level officials and representatives of government agencies responsible in the management of emergencies of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkey and Turkmenistan, being the members of the Economic Cooperation Organization.
The representatives of the following bodies and agencies attended the event: UN Development Programme, UN Children's Fund, UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, Humanitarian Aid Office of the United Nations, the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief, the German Society for International Cooperation, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, the Asian Disaster Reduction Center, OIC Regional Center on Disaster Risk Management, Freie University, the Geoscience Research Institute of Central Asia, the International Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Seismology, the German Red Cross and the Red Crescent Society of Azerbaijan. The main purpose of the event is to deepen and develop the mutual cooperation of relevant structures of member countries and international entities working closely with the organization in the field of civil defense, defense of population and territories from emergency situations of natural and man-made disasters, their prevention and mitigation of consequences.
The conference was attended by the Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, colonel-general Kamaleddin Heydarov, Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization, Shamil Alasgarov, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Bashir Atalay, UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan and Resident Representative of the UNDP in Azerbaijan, Antonius Bernardus Broek.
