Important measures are being taken in the Gabala region to develop the ancient carpet weaving art.
Carpet weaving, being a type of decorative and applied art, is a craft belonging to peoples, possessing a rich culture and ancient historical traditions. The carpet has a number of positive features. It is a collection of folk art, requiring artistic visual arts and great skill. Carpet is not only an excellent handwork, but also a valuable thing that can be used in everyday life. The emergence and development of types of carpet making in Azerbaijan have a very ancient history. Important measures are also being taken for the development of ancient carpet-making art in the Gabala region. The workshops and private workshops operating in the area weave historically ancient carpets in the national assortment called “Pirabadil”, “Guba-Shirvan”, “Kekhne Surakhany”, “Gollu Chichi”, “Gazakh-Karabakh”, “Lajady”, “Shirvan”, "Gymyl", "Gulistan". Along with this, the Laza carpets belonging only to Gabala are also woven in the region, and this is of great interest to tourists coming to the region. For the development of the carpet weaving industry, preparatory courses are being organized, which, in turn, along with the increasing interest in the craft, contributes to the in-depth study of the secrets of this craft. Carpets, gebe, kilim, sumakh, khurjun, portrait carpets, souvenir and historical weaving pieces, being the handicraft products, are offered to tourists in exhibition and sales centers. These carpets, attracting the attention with delicate ornaments, fine and elegant patterns, along with exhibitions organized in foreign countries, are shown at regional events, national festivals of decorative art, national republican tourist exhibition, and at the exhibitions of works of amateur artists and authors of folk applied art.
