A meeting was held at the Gabala Treatment and Diagnostics Center in connection with the "Twenty-ninth anniversary of the 20th January tragedy". First of all participants of the event honored the memory of the martyrs of the "20th January tragedy" with a minute of silence. Speaking at the event, chief physician of the Center Jeyhun Ahmadov briefed the participants about the causes of the "20th January tragedy" and spoke about the social and political events of that tragedy. The doctor of the center, Kamal Mammadov, pointed out that on the night of January 19th to 20th of 1990, the Soviet army entering the city from different directions of the capital attacked peaceful civilians, and innocent people were shot dead. On the same day, physicians, university students performed their duty honestly and helped the wounded in a very difficult situation, often by candlelight. It was stated that on those tragic days the National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who highly esteemed freedom, honor and dignity of his country and people, came to the Azerbaijani Representation in Moscow and expressed his protest and gave the legal and political assessment of this tragedy after coming to power. Speaking at the meeting, the Center's doctors called the January 20th events a glorious page in the history of the Azerbaijani people. It was noticed in the speeches that the events of January 20th, which is the continuation of the territorial claims against Azerbaijan, could not break the persistence of our people for struggle, on the contrary, these events played an important role in the collapse of the Soviet Union. It was noted that the events of Bloody January could not take away the desire for freedom of the Azerbaijani people.Speaking about the heroic history of the Azerbaijani people on the 20th of January, the speakers pointed out that the most sacred goal is to protect our independence by following such events.
