A commemoration event dedicated to the Khojaly genocide was held in Gabala.

A memorial event dedicated to the 27th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Gabala Cultural Center. First, the participants got acquainted with the art exhibition, prepared from the manual works of students at the cultural center. Then, the memory of our compatriots who died during the Khojaly genocide, and our martyrs, who sacrificed their lives for their Motherland, was honored with a minute of silence. The ceremony was opened by the Deputy Head of the Region Executive Power Ataya Osmanova, she told about one of the bloodiest events in the history of Azerbaijan - the Khojaly tragedy, committed against our people by Armenian armed forces, about the grave consequences of this crime. Umidvar Hasanov, a teacher at a secondary school in Kurd village, in his speech pointed out that innocent civilians were killed with particular cruelty during the Khojaly tragedy, captured people were subjected to terrible torture and humiliation. That night, 613 people were killed, 1000 became disabled, 106 of them women, 63 children and 70 elderly people. It was stressed that 8 families were completely destroyed by Armenians, 25 children lost both parents, 130 children lost one of their parents, 1275 were taken hostage, the fate of 150 of them is still unknown. It was noted that the commemoration of the 27th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide proves once again that the horrors of atrocities and crimes committed by the Armenian aggressors will never be erased from memory. Because what happened in Khojaly is not only a genocide against the Azerbaijani people, but also a bloody crime against humanity. The peace-loving peoples of the world, civilized states, influential international organizations, the international community must know this bitter truth, and this crime against humanity must receive its legal assessment. Speaking at the event, the Head of the Gabala Region Executive Power, Sabuhi Abdullayev, stressed that the Azerbaijani authorities of those days did nothing to give a political assessment of this terrible incident, to bring objective information about the massacre to the world community. However, after the return to the power of the savior of the Azerbaijani people, National Leader Heydar Aliyev, this bloody tragedy was first given a political and legal assessment. The Head of REP, brought to the attention that the work carried out in the direction of giving a political and legal assessment of the Khojaly tragedy on a broader scale, will be continued, terrorism committed against our people throughout history by the Armenian savages will never be forgotten, that under the leadership of the Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev, our lands occupied by the Armenian armed forces will soon be freed from the enemy and our martyrs will be avenged. The event was continued with a literary and artistic composition prepared by the regional center for children and youth development.
