Preserving the independence of our state after the return of national leader Heydar Aliyev to power on June 15, 1993.

In spite of the fact that Azerbaijan gained independence for the second time in its history in October 1991, at that time, a number of foreign circles and their domestic henchmen were not satisfied with the demonstration by our country of such political will. The activation of these forces with external support and gradual interference in political life of the country further aggravated already difficult situation in Azerbaijan. On the other hand, the steps of Armenia, which gave impetus to the policy of occupation, led the country into increasingly unmanageable situation. The weakness of managerial skills and the inability of to find a way out of the situation of the forces in power at that time was beneficial for internal and external forces that sought to divide Azerbaijan. Since the beginning of 1993, illegal actions committed by some armed groups operating in the country fully activated the plan of fraternal slaughter and civil war within Azerbaijan, awakening trends of separatism and division in certain regions, and finally ending the existence of Azerbaijan as a state. The insubordination of military unit under the control of Colonel Surat Huseynov in Ganja completely plunged the country into chaos on June 4, 1993. Hasty measures taken by the government in order to control the situation make the situation acute, however these measures were realized in order to regulate it. At this period, in order to save the state from destruction, the country's leadership, at the insistence of the people, decided to invite the Chairman of the Supreme Mejlis of Nakhchivan, Heydar Aliyev, to Baku. After long discussions and mass appeals of the people to Heydar Aliyev, national leader returned to Baku and once again took on heavy burden. Heydar Aliyev was elected the Chairman of Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan on June 15, 1993. Thus, June 15 entered the history of Azerbaijan as the Day of National Salvation. Then the deputies made an offer to include June 15 in the calendar as the day of Salvation of Azerbaijan, and the Milli Majlis supported this offer. Since then, the return of Heydar Aliyev to power has been celebrated as the Day of National Salvation. The people have been celebrating this day with great festive mood for 27 years. When Heydar Aliyev returned to Baku, only factor that gave an impetus to the elimination of all these matters and problems was the return of the people's trust in themselves. It was this trust that decided everything. Since then, under the leadership of Heydar Aliyev, the country has been prevented from falling in all the directions, and great steps have been taken to ensure the development of Azerbaijan. In a short time, Heydar Aliyev, mobilizing all his forces, succeeded in the eliminating the dangers that threaten Azerbaijan. At that time, this was the main goal of national leader. It is no coincidence that the beginning of modern history of Azerbaijan begins with grand return of national leader Heydar Aliyev. As a clear proof of this, we can point out that as a result of the policy of Heydar Aliyev, our country has developed greatly over the past 27 years, and in concrete terms, Heydar Aliyev achieved the building of new Azerbaijan with his historical return. Today, the day of Salvation, celebrated its 27th anniversary, is considered one of the most memorable events in modern history of Azerbaijan. Because in the 27 years that have passed since the day of salvation, Azerbaijan has developed to a degree that many could not imagine, it has become a part of the world community. This policy, which was launched by Heydar Aliyev in 1992, has been successfully continued under the leadership of worthy successor of national leader's political course, President Ilham Aliyev since 2003. The successes achieved by Ilham Aliyev in all the fields over the past 17 years, during which he has been at the head of Azerbaijan, the transformation of our country into the leader of South Caucasus region, and the authority of the country in the world community confirm the above. The solidarity of Mr. President with the people of the country in the fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic, which has engulfed all the world, is welcomed by the citizens of the country with special enthusiasm. The work done under the leadership of the President Ilham Aliyev to protect health and improve well-being of Azerbaijani people during the pandemic, in particular, large-scale social support measures, can be the example for many states. Relying namely on necessary economic and financial opportunities, our state always provided and continues to provide the support to the protection of welfare of people and development of private sector in the most difficult times. These measures once again prove the solidarity of the state and the people, the people and their leader. Today, our people are sure that in the light of independent Azerbaijan ideas of Heydar Aliyev, under the leadership of the President Ilham Aliyev, they will conquer even higher peaks.
