The memory of 20 January martyrs was respectfully honoured in Gabala

Thorough repair works were implemented in Gabala with a view to eternalize memory of citizens heroically died in the battles conducted for sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and memorial ceremony dedicated to the memory for 20 January martyrs was held in reconstructed Alley of Martyrs. The complex consisting of 2500 square meters total area includes 2 graves. Photos of 148 martyrs sacrificed their lives for the independence of Azerbaijan were reflected on the walls with the inner part made of granite. Stone tiles were laid on the 632 sq. meters area of the complex and architectural ensemble was established by constructing network arches in 15 marble granite pieces of 5 m height as well as eternal flame was rekindled inside of it. The area was provided with lighting system, gas and water pipelines were laid, and planting works were conducted in the internal area. Making speech in the memorial ceremony, the head of regional executive power Mr. Sabuhi Abdullayev gave evidence of the causes of 20 January tragedy, malicious policy of the persons governing the soviet empire against Azerbaijani people, true essence of this tragedy committed against our nation. It was noted that in disregard of the massacre committed in Baku with the aim of suppressing national liberation movement of our Azerbaijani people, this bloody incident couldn’t break the independence will of our nation. The important significance of our country’s freedom and independence as a symbol of heroism in the battle for territorial integrity was emphasized. It was our great leader Heydar Aliyev who lifted his voice against perpetrators of bloody tragedy in the hard days of the people. 20 January was politically assessed after the return of Heydar Aliyev to the power. The participants of the memorial ceremony mentioned that honorary memory of martyrs devoted their lives to our freedom would never be forgotten. Wreathes were laid and funeral repast was given in the ceremony for the memory of martyrs sacrificed their lives for the freedom of our state. Members of the public and thousands of Gabala residents paid deep obeisance to the spirits of martyrs.
