President of Azerbaijan, Chairman of Non-Aligned Movement Ilham Aliyev made a speech in a video format at the high-level meeting to mark 75th anniversary of United Nations on the sidelines of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.

The grave consequences of the Second World War necessitated the establishment of the United Nations in 1945 to prevent the recurrence of wars and conflicts that would once again bring disaster to humanity. The UN established to maintain international peace and security, promote the development of friendly relations between nations and social progress, uphold the level of protection of human life and rights. However, on September 21, the high-level meeting to mark 75th anniversary of United Nations on the sidelines of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly proved once again that Armenia is grossly violating the requirements of the UN Charter with its policy of aggression. It was proved in the speech of President of Azerbaijan, Chairman of Non-Aligned Movement Ilham Aliyev. All member states undertook to refrain from the use of force against the political independence and territorial integrity of any country by joining the UN Charter. However, Armenia grossly violated its obligations and used military force against Azerbaijan. Armenia has occupied the region of Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts. In 1993, the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 822, demanding immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied areas of Azerbaijan. Unfortunately, Armenia continues to ignore these resolutions. The Armenian Prime Minister announced the establishment of civilian militia consisting of tens of thousands of civilians who will be forced to undertake military actions against Azerbaijan. This clearly demonstrates new aggressive intention of the Armenian leadership. The Armenian defense minister threatens Azerbaijan with so-called “new war for new territories” statements. All responsibility lies on the military-political leadership of Armenia for instigating provocations and escalation of tension. Today, Azerbaijan has built fruitful cooperation with the United Nations. Our country was elected to a non-permanent seat of the Security Council in 2012-2013 with the support of 155 states. Furthermore, Azerbaijan currently holds the chairmanship of the Non-Alignment Movement with the unanimous support of 120 NAM countries. Non-Aligned Movement’s online Summit in response to COVID-19, was held on our initiative in May 2020. During the Summit, I proposed, on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement, to convene a Special Session of the UN General Assembly in response to COVID-19 at the level of the heads of state and government. More than 130 countries supported this initiative. Development of democracy and human rights protection are among top priorities of our government. All fundamental freedoms are fully provided, including freedom of expression, media freedom, freedom of assembly, religious freedoms, as well as development of civil society. Azerbaijan expressly and strongly supports the United Nations, a symbol of multiculturalism and international cooperation. Azerbaijan is prepared to work jointly with other countries to strengthen the UN further and boost its relevance and prestige in international relations. Azerbaijan is a stable, modern, democratic country. Development of democracy and human rights protection are among top priorities of our government. All fundamental freedoms are fully provided, including freedom of expression, media freedom, freedom of assembly, religious freedoms, as well as development of civil society. We launched broad political dialogue initiative several months ago. All major political parties supported this initiative. The political dialogue which successfully started will help to strengthen our political system and serve the cause of sustainable development of Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev's speech at the UN is a manifestation of Azerbaijan's prestige in the world, respect, trust and confidence in our country. However, the head of state resolutely defended the interests of our country and people at the high-level meeting to mark 75th anniversary of United Nations on the sidelines of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. The rational speech of the Head of State exposed the Armenian leadership with his pragmatic theses and proved that the words of the Prime Minister of the hostile country consisted of nonsense, slander and evil. President Ilham Aliyev has once again brought to the attention of the world community our country's resolute position on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He proved that our country has great political, economic and military power to resolve the conflict within the framework of Azerbaijan's territorial integrity. Furthermore, As Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev messaged to both Armenia and its supporters that Azerbaijan will not back down from its resolute position and protect our state, people and ensure our territorial integrity using all the opportunities created by international law. The Head of State also presented a new form of modern, democratic, developing Azerbaijan, which is an example to the world with its progress, also brought to the attention of the world community our new success, achievements, fight against COVID-19, activities on the tolerance and multiculturalism. The representatives of all countries represented in the background of President Ilham Aliyev's speech at the UN once again got acquainted with the strength, power and achievements of the modern Azerbaijani state. The President Ilham Aliyev hereby approved that he is a resolute Head of State who defends the national interests of his country and people, and accepted as a leader without an alternative in Azerbaijan.
