"Road to Freedom"
Gabala Post Office hosted an event on the theme "Road to Freedom", devoted to the 25th anniversary of the 20 January Tragedy.
Participants of the event paid tribute to martyrs. Opening the meeting with the introductory remarks postmaster of Gabala Post Office Rauf Karimov spoke about the bloody tragedy that befell the peaceful people of Azerbaijan in the night from 19 to 20 January 1990.
Speaker stressed that the massacre perpetrated at that night failed to break the resolve of our people in the struggle for independence, saying the whole world about their resistance and heroism, loyalty to motherland, land, the struggle for freedom.
It was noted that only after the return of Heydar Aliyev to political power in 1993 the events of January 20, 1990, that are remembered in the history of Azerbaijan as Bloody January tragedy, were given political and legal assessment. Rauf Karimov said that January 20 is not only sad day in the history of Azerbaijan, but also the day of national pride of our people, also noted that it plays an important role in enhancing the patriotic spirit of the young generation.
Speaking at the meeting members of the Post Office told that the bright memory of our martyrs, who gave their lives for the restoration of independence, will always live in our hearts.
