January 20 - Heroic Chronicle
January 20, 1990 - the day of the national liberation struggle of the Azerbaijani people, that has a special place in the history, each year at the state level is celebrated as the day of memory of the victims, missing people while resisting the empire for freedom and independence.
In accordance with the "Action Plan for the twenty-fifth anniversary of the day of national mourning January 20", approved by the Head of the Executive Power of Gabala region, a series of commemorative events was held in settlements.
Within the events organized in all secondary schools of the district, cultural and educational institutions, enterprises and organizations, genocide on January 20 has been described as a symbol of heroism of the Azerbaijani people in the struggle for freedom and independence.
The stands, art exhibitions, poetry and essay contests, literary and artistic compositions, other thematic activities, reflecting the tragedy of January 20, have been organized in schools in the direction of inculcating the spirit of patriotism in students. On January 19 the first lessons were devoted to the events of January 20 and the heroic struggle of the martyrs.
Today, in connection with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the January 20 tragedy the national flag of Azerbaijan was flown at half mast in the area.
In connection with the day of national mourning the Head of the District Executive Power Mr. Sabuhi Abdullayev, officers of the district executive power, all the staff and members of the public visited the city Shahidlar Khiyabani (Alley of Martyrs).
The surahs from the Koran have been read for the peace of the martyrs' souls. People laid flowers to the majestic monument of those who died for the freedom of our people.
Then, in the Cultural Center of Gabala, a film "Bloody January" of "Bakifilm" studio screened by Vahid Mustafayev was shown. Prior to the screening, Deputy Head of District Executive Power Ataya Osmanova told the audience about the events of January 20 and dedicated to these events film. The audience paid tribute to the victims of the 20 January tragedy with a moment of silence.
Gabala people will never forget the people who laid their lives in that terrible night in the name of homeland, they highly honor bright memories of them.
