Gabala city of Azerbaijan and Gyeongju city of Korea became twin-cities.

Between the cities of Gyeongju of the Republic of Korea and Gabala of the Republic of Azerbaijan an Agreement was signed "On the establishment of friendly relations." The document was signed during the visit to Gyeongju of the head of the Gabala Region Executive Power Mr. Sabuhi Abdullayev and the Mayor of Gyeongju Choi Young-shik. At the meeting held prior to the signing ceremony, the satisfaction with the development of the ascending relations between the two countries in political, economic, cultural and other spheres was expressed. It was emphasized that the expansion of bilateral ties in various fields is fruitful for both parties, it was noted that the creation and development of direct cooperation between regions and cities of our countries is commendable at this point. The parties stressed the importance of the agreement, which will provide the basis for networking between the cities of Gabala and Gyeongju, having an ancient history. Based on the agreement, the parties agree to the establishment of friendly relations between the two cities in the cultural, scientific, business, sports, youth fields through the exchange of delegations. In this regard, both of the cities, located on the ancient Silk Road, will contribute to the expansion of ties with the economic, business and tourism opportunities, begin scientific cooperation with the inclusion of historical, cultural and archaeological areas, will conduct joint activities in the sports and youth sectors.
