An Open Tournament on taekwondo was held in Gabala.
Together with Gabala Taekwondo Department the Youth and Sports Department of Gabala region held an Open Tournament on taekwondo devoted to the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev amongst cadet and juveniles. 160 athletes on 10 teams from Gabala, Baku, Sumgayit, Aghdash, Shamakhi, Kalbajar, Jabrayil and Aghsu regions participated in the tournament organized in the gym of "Qafqaz" Sport Hotel on December 5 and 6. The main purpose of the competition was to inform the younger generation about Heydar Aliyev's invaluable contributions in the independence and progress of Azerbaijan, and his reforms in sports, as well as to develop taekwondo in the country, to improve juvenile athletes' racing experience and skills, and to determine composition of the national team on taekwondo. The honour memory of the National Leader Haydar Aliyev was revered with a minute’s silence in the opening ceremony of the tournament. Thereafter, the Head of the Department of Youth and Sports of Gabala region Fakhri Soltanov, and the Head Coach of "Gabala" Taekwondo Department Khayal Azizov made speeches, spoke about state care for sport and sportsmen in the country and wished good luck to the athletes. Juvenile boys and girls competed in the tournament held in accordance with the existing international rules. At the end of the Gabala Open Tournament on taekwondo the winners of I, II, III places and athletes winning in each weight were given diplomas.
