Nij settlement celebrated Christmas.

On January 7 all orthodox Christians of the world celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ- Christmas Holiday. The Udis living in the Nij settlement of Gabala region celebrate this day in a unique way. Yesterday the residents of the settlement gathered in the festive ceremony organized in the Albanian church "Jotari". Addressing in the festive ceremony the Head of the Albanian-Udi community, the priest of the church and community members spoke about the essence of Christmas, the conditions created in Azerbaijan for performing religious rites, and the care and attention of our country for them, and presented their congratulations on the holiday. The Udis said there was no discrimination against them in the region, and stressed that the substantial restoration of the Albanian church "Jotari" in the Nij settlement was a good example of tolerance in Azerbaijan. 3,700 Udis live in the Nij settlement the number of the population of which is 6,000. There are 3 churches and 2 mosques here. Udi language is taught at secondary schools in Nij, religious rites are performed in their native language at the church. In brief, Nij settlement, where Muslims and Christians friendly co-exist, is deemed a small model of tolerance. Regarding the Christmas Day candles were lit, prayers were made and a holiday dinner was given.
