Our boxer became the world champion.
Baku hosted the fight for the title of world champion under the versions of WBF (World Boxing Federation) and WBCA. The battle taking place in the boxing center, the first professional boxer of Azerbaijan, member of the "Gabala" sports club Fariz Mammadov met with the representative of Uganda Badru Lusambiya. The athletes competed for the world championship belt in the welterweight (66.7 kg). The fight, which was supposed to last 12 rounds, was 22 match of Mammadov in the professional ring. Our boxer, who won 18 of 21 previous fights, completing 12 of them earlier, wasn't floored by the African athlete also. Demonstrating benefits from the first round Mammadov met with resistance only in the first 6 parts. In the 7th round, our athlete, increasing pressure knocked Lusambiya down. Continuing fight African in the 8 round stood up after another knockdown. After a while Fariz once again knocked the opponent. This time the Ugandan could not find the strength to continue the fight. Thus, Mammadov, who finished the match in the 8th round, got the belt of the world champion by the version of WBF (World Boxing Federation) and WBCA. So, our representative got in the boxing history of Azerbaijan as our first world champion in the professional boxing.
