“Khojaly tragedy- tragedy of the century”

25 February 2016 | 00:00

Commemorative events will be held in general educational institution, departments, enterprises and organizations of the region in connection with the 24th anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy. The event organized in the Gabala Region Police Department associated with the anniversary of Khojaly tragedy was opened by the introductory speech of Police Colonel Ehtibar Abduyev, Chief of Police Department. First of all, the memory of our compatriots, who died in Khojaly tragedy, was honoured by the event participators with a moment of silence. Ehtibar Abduyev noted that Khojaly massacre was the act of genocide committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis. Our people shall never forget the bloody genocide committed by our disgraced neighbours and the young generation shall be regularly informed of these terrible events. Speaking about the historical roots and the results of Khojaly genocide, Rasim Bayramov, Leading Consultant of the region educational department, stated that the roots of Khojaly tragedy go back to the oldest pages of history. Historically, Armenians have always taken treacherous position against the local population of the territory where they lived as guests, in particular, against Turks and Azerbaijanis. Yet in the eighth century Babak, folk hero, who courageously fought against Arab caliphate for many years, was the victim of Armenian betrayal. Armenian betrayal showed itself more clearly after the conquest of the Caucasus by Russian Tsar Empire. Miserable and destitute Armenians scattered around the world were placed on ancient and eternal territories of Azerbaijan by the support of the Tsarist Russia and have always been hostile to our people. Genocide committed by bloodthirsty Armenians on February 26, 1992 has been carried out in more cruel, more brutal way than the previous massacres. In 1994, on the initiative of the national leader Heydar Aliyev, Khojaly tragedy was assessed by Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Republic as genocide committed by Armenian vandals against Azerbaijanis. Unfortunately, the international organizations responsible for the well-being of the world have not given true political assessment of the Khojaly genocide. Deputy Chief of the Region Police Department, police Lieutenant-Colonel Aladdin Nuhov and others made speeches and shared their views on Khojaly genocide with the participants in the event.
