On February 25, 2016 Heydar Aliyev Center of Gabala region hosted an event entitled "Khojaly - unabated grief" in connection with the 24 anniversary of the Khojaly genocide. The event was attended by teaching and student groups of secondary schools number 3 and 4. The event, organized at a round table, was opened honoring with a minute of silence the memory of victims of Khojaly genocide and the spirit of the martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. Opening the event with the introductory speech, Heydar Aliyev Center employee Mahira Karimova noted that Khojaly tragedy is a genocide committed against our people, and one of the most heinous crimes of the ХХ century. Speaking about the horrors of the Khojaly tragedy, M.Karimova noted that the preliminary political assessment of this genocide is connected with the name of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, and it was his initiative in 1994, when the Parliament of Azerbaijan adopted a decision on the recognition of February 26 as the day of the Khojaly genocide. Speaker noted that the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev carries out purposeful and consistent activities for informing the world community of the truth about the crimes committed against our people by Armenian nationalists, including the Khojaly tragedy, for the recognition of it as genocide. Speaking at the event with a presentation entitled "Khojaly genocide - the tragedy of the ХХ century", an employee of the Heydar Aliyev Center A.Mammadova noted that the Khojaly genocide entered the history of Azerbaijan as one of the most terrible and tragic pages. National leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev in his appeal to the Azerbaijani people on the tenth anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, said: "This cruel and merciless act of genocide entered the history of mankind as one of the most dreadful mass act of terror". Among speakers, the teacher of secondary school number 3 of Gabala K.Mahmudova told about the tragic consequences of ethnic cleansing and genocide policy pursued by Armenians for more than two centuries, numerous facts testifying to the bloody attack against civilians in Khojaly, a large-scale activity of the country's leadership in the direction of recognition of Khojaly genocide in the world. In conclusion, the students of secondary school number 3 performed a poetic composition dedicated to Khojaly.
