The region's freestyle wrestling championship, dedicated to March 5th - the Day of Physical Culture and Sport, was held.

March 5th is the Day of Physical Culture and Sport in our country. Celebrating this date as the Day of Physical Culture and Sport in Azerbaijan is not accidental. It was on March 5, 1995, when the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev met with the winners and awardees of the World and European Championships in the Baku Sports Palace, established the Sports Fund, laid the foundation for a new strategy in the development of physical culture and sport. Soon, the strengthening of the material and technical base of sports, the concern for the training of athletes at a professional level showed their positive results, and Azerbaijan was recognized in the world as a sporting country. As a tradition, "March 5th - the Day of Physical Culture and Sport" is solemnly celebrated in Azerbaijan every year. According to the plan of the relevant events, the Gabala Region Youth and Sports Department conducted the region championship in free-style wrestling among juniors. At the opening ceremony of the championship the head of the Region Department of Youth and Sports Fakhri Soltanov in his speech greeted the participants of the tournament, congratulating them, and wished them success. Informing the participants of the event about the history of this day, he said that this date is celebrated in accordance with the order of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev on the establishment of the "Day of Physical Culture and Sport" dated on March 4, 2005. The purpose of the championship is to ensure the improvement of the sports skills of the competition participants, the achievement of massive participation in sports. After the opening ceremony, the wrestlers, who started the struggle for the championship, appeared on the mats. In the contest, up to 50 young men measured strength in two age groups in 16 weight categories (23-26-29-32-35-38-42-46-50-54-58-63-69-76-80, + 85 kg). The competition was entrusted to the judges, approved by the Region Department of Youth and Sports on the basis of the rules of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation. Following the results of the championship, which took place in the intense struggle, the winners of the I, II, III places were awarded diplomas of the Department of Youth and Sports.
