An exhibition of works by contestants of the 3rd Baku International Architecture Award was opened in Gabala.
The 3rd Baku International Architecture Award supported by International Union of Architects, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, “Gilan Holding”, and organized by Azerbaijan Union of Architects has been completed. First of all, the contestants came to the Heydar Aliyev Park in the center of Gabala and laid flowers at the monument to the National Leader. Later, a meeting of jury of the 3rd Baku International Architecture Award with the head of Gabala Region Executive Power Sabuhi Abdullayev was held. During the meeting, the delegation was given detailed information by the head of REP about history, economic situation, social and cultural life of the region, as well as buildings constructed in the region in modern architectural style recently. After that, a press conference was held in Gabala city Heydar Aliyev Congress Center. At the meeting, Chairman of jury of the 3rd Baku International Architecture Award, and Former President of the International Union of Architects Vassilis Sgoutas, the members - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Azerbaijan Union of Architects Elbay Gasimzade, Board member of international organization Patrick Colombie, Former Senior Secretary of International Union of Architects Michel Barmaki, Former Vice-President Heydar Ali made a speech and highly appreciated the importance of this competition held in Baku biyearly. It was stated that, this open international competition, along with the world famous architects, has attracted great interest of young architects, and the number of contestants is increasing gradually. Elbay Gazimzade spoke about state care for the development of architecture in Azerbaijan and the interest of young people in this sphere. He noted that one of 5 competitions held in the world nowadays by the International Union of Architects is Baku International Architecture Award. 4 architects in the first competition, 18 in the second competition, and 53 architects in the third competition represented Azerbaijan. It was noted that works by 156 contestants from 22 counties (Azerbaijan, Italy, Spain, Russia, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Greece, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Romania, France, Czech Republic, Georgia, Afghanistan, Japan, Gabon, Pakistan, Malaysia, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, and South African Republic) were presented in the competition. The competition was held on nominations of “The best project implemented in the field of architecture of public buildings”, “The best project implemented in the field of architecture of residential buildings”, “The best interior implemented”, “The best project unimplemented”, “The best project implemented in the field of landscape architecture”, “The best project implemented in the field of restoration and reconstruction of buildings”, "The best publication in the field of architecture", “The best journalistic work and criticism in the field of architecture” (on the Internet or published). The works presented to the competition were rated by international jury consisting of 5 people within two days. Finally, an exhibition of photographs of architectural works by contestants was viewed. An exhibition of works presented to the competition was welcomed by the public.
