Christmas was celebrated in the Nij settlement of the Gabala Region.
On January 7, 2026, a festive event dedicated to Christmas, celebrated by Orthodox Christians, was held in the Nij settlement of the Gabala Region. The ceremony, organized at the “Chotari” Albanian Church operating in the settlement, was attended by members of the Albanian-Udi community as well as representatives of the region’s public. Speaking at the event, the church priest Rafik Danakari and members of the community spoke about the essence of the Christmas holiday and the conditions created in Azerbaijan, a land of tolerance, for the observance of religious rites. They also extended their holiday greetings and expressed their gratitude to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva, and Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva for the attention and care shown to the Nij settlement.
