Event Entitled “General Polad Hashimov – A Symbol of Devotion to the Motherland” Held

On July 13, 2026, an event entitled “General Polad Hashimov – A Symbol of Devotion to the Motherland”, dedicated to the sixth anniversary of the Tovuz Battles, was held at the Heydar Aliyev Center of the Gabala Region. Delivering the opening remarks, Kamala Gasimova, Acting Director of the Heydar Aliyev Center of the Gabala Region, highlighted the strategic significance of the Tovuz Battles fought in July 2020 in ensuring the security of Azerbaijan’s state borders. She noted that these battles laid one of the foundations for the country’s historic Victory. Speaking at the event, Ataya Osmanova, Deputy Head of the Gabala Region Executive Power, spoke about the Victory achieved as a result of the successful continuation by President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev of the army-building strategy founded by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, as well as the liberation of the territories that had been under occupation. She noted that Major General Polad Hashimov, a National Hero of Azerbaijan who inscribed his name in the nation’s glorious history through his heroism in the battles for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, will forever live in the memory of the people. Other speakers highlighted the National Hero’s outstanding personal qualities, exceptional leadership skills, and selfless dedication demonstrated by fighting shoulder to shoulder with his soldiers on the front line, noting that his example continues to inspire the younger generation. As part of the event, a documentary video depicting the course of the Tovuz Battles and the honorable life and military career of Major General Polad Hashimov was screened.   Ofelya Salmanova, the wife of the martyred Major General, reflected on the hero’s distinguished life and military service, and expressed her sincere gratitude to the country's leadership for the continued care and support extended to the families of martyrs.
